About The West Lancs Dog Display Team 2010

The team was established by Guy and Jean Richardson in 1992 and has always consisted of dedicated members of the public who attended training classes at West Lancs Canine Centre . Initially the team appeared at events locally and assisted various organisations raise money for charity. The dog diplays were always very popular and the team devolped its own unique style.

Over the years they have been invited to appear at major events all around the UK but to this day still find the time to support local charities on Merseyside, appearing at at least a dozen events. They have thrilled audiences of all ages with their unique brand of canine entertainment. Their large repertoire of canine stunts utilises many breeds of dogs from cross-breeds to pedigree, from miniature to giant breeds. They can tailor their display to suit the exact requirements of any show.

Guy has been team director since its inception. Team instructor is Sharon Butler who has been a team member since 1992, becoming an instructor in 1996. The technical crew for 2010 are yet to be appointed. The crew are responsible for setting up the team equipment and co-ordinating all stunts.

The team is proud to have Scott Burtoft as their commentator. Scott first took this role on in 1994 and has over the years developed his own unique style of commentary. He also is the team co-ordinator and deals on a day to day basis with event organisers and generally takes care of the team when they are away on tour.

The display routine is very complex as the team can draw from over two hours of repertoire and generally have to condense this into two 20 - 25 minute shows. The team rehearses all year round to maintain a consistently high standard.

The display routine is always accompanied by music, the dogs can be seen racing around the figure of eight agility course. They exhibit such skills as specialised retrieving, body agility, back walking, body weaving and much more. Comedy routines, thrills, spills and plenty of surprises with lots of audience participation are all part of the show. In 2003 the team introduced a search dog and gundog routine.

The 60' fire dog walk and fire jump sequences are quite spectacular, incorporating 15 fire jumps, demonstrating a high degree of control and trust between owner and dog. The highlight of the show is always the car and motorcycle chases where the highly trained manwork dogs (the goodies) pursue and apprehend the armed baddies. Watch out for the unique Wild West routine where the dogs and handlers are the lawmen as they protect the innocent Red Indians from the marauding bandits. Spectacular action packed entertainment.

The team offers a show for any occasion presented in a very professional manner. Credits include, The Royal Norfolk Show, The Royal Lancashire Show, The Cheshire Show, The Liverpool Show, The Southport Flower Show, The Hurlingham Club, The Grand National at Aintree, Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs. See our display team history which lists all the displays since 1992.

At the end of each show the audience are invited to meet the handlers, dogs and their families outside the arena.

The team requires a minimum arena size of 50 metres x 30 metres with equipment holding area 10 metres x 10 metres adjacent to the arena. Parking for a minimum of 12 team members' vehicles. A minimum of 10 handlers and 15 dogs attend each show.

West Lancs Dog Display Team is a big family show with a difference. We are the number 1 Canine Entertainers in the country today.

The team hold £5 million public liability insurance. All dogs are individually insured for third party liability.

The team is registered with Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council and holds a Performing Animals Licence. This conforms to the requirements of the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925.
