Established in 1989, West Lancs Canine Centre is located in Formby, Liverpool, near Southport on the border of Merseyside and West Lancashire, North West England, United Kingdom. We are 30 minutes drive from both Mersey Tunnels.
Situated in 7 acres of secure, floodlit training grounds the centre was extended and extensively modernised in 2002, with a new indoor training area.
Founded by Jean and Guy Richardson, their son Craig has now taken over the day to day running of the centre. Guy retired from the centre in 2010 to concentrate on his expert witness work assessing dogs whose owners have been prosecuted under the provisions of Section 1 + 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
The centre offers first class canine training and instruction in a relaxed friendly atmosphere and provides a comprehensive range of puppy training and adult dog training courses. All dog training instructors working at the centre are personally trained and supervised by Craig. Have a look at some of our customers` testimonials and our guestbook.
Craig has been working and training dogs of all breeds as a full-time professional dog trainer and behaviourist for many years. He is dog training and dog behaviour consultant for the Liverpool Branch of the RSPCA and Animals in Need in Melling.
He has attended two dog training instructor courses with the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers and qualified with honours passes at both the first and second grade. Craig was one of the original members of the West Lancs Dog Display Team from 1992 with his German Shepherd Dog "Kurt". Chief Instructor Sharon Butler is head veterinary nurse at a local veterinary surgery and first came along to West Lancs Canine Centre in 1992 with her beautiful cross bred bitch called Jodie. She has been a display team member since 1993. She possesses a wealth of dog training experience. Sharon has twice passed instructors courses with the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers, achieving a second grade honours pass on her first course and a pass on her second course, at the first grade.
Instructor Joanne Brannan has attended her instructor training course at the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers and achieved an honours pass at the second grade. Joanne has been a loyal member of the West Lancs Dog Display Team for nearly 10 years and has proved herself as an excellent handler and is now passing on her experience to our training class members.
We offer dog behaviour counselling clinics at the centre & at the RSPCA animal shelter at Halewood, Liverpool, Merseyside.
Guy Richardson can help if you and your dog are the subject of civil or
criminal proceedings. With his experience he is recognised as an independent expert witness and can assess your dog and provide your solicitor with a comprehensive report for the court. He can assist in Dangerous Dogs Act prosecutions in respect of providing both behavioural and or breed "type" conformation assessments. He has a thorough knowledge of Dog Law, in particular the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 + 1997. Guy is an expert in dealing with all aspects of dog aggression and over the last 34 years has assessed and dealt with thousands of dogs with inter-dog or inter-human aggression problems.
